GOSPEL AND FOLK SINGING TOUR OF CUBA January 24th. 2010
Planning a January getaway next year to relieve the winter blahs ? Why not think about spending a couple of weeks in Cuba learning and performing gospel and folk music ?
Peter Dent, Pianist, Composer, Choral arranger and Choir Conductor will lead a singing workshop tour to Cuba leaving various Canadian cities on January 24th. Dent has successfully led similar workshops in Cuba and Jamaica. In 2007,2008,and 9 the group stayed in the same resort. We are again offering a two week duration to allow enough time for travellers from opposite parts of the country to get to the destination for the workshops and performances. Either in the morning or the evening for 5 days, singers will meet to learn and rehearse the repertoire chosen by the music director. Performances scheduled at the conclusion of the workshop will be in collaboration with local Cuban musicians. Admission to these performances will be free and any monies raised will go to local Cuban organizations.
The rest of the time is devoted to enjoying the sights and sounds of this wonderful tropical island in the middle of a Canadian winter. No official tour program is laid on. Individuals are free to arrange their rest and relaxation to suit the laid back nature of the experience. The workshop will be held in the Cameleon Villas Resort, Jibacoa, Cuba. The Resort itself offers a series of free services including escorted nature walks and hikes, farm visits, snorkeling on the local reef and bicycles.
The exclusive sponsoring agency is Vision 2000/Blaney’s Travel of Victoria. Martina Peladeau, the travel agency representative is herself a choral singer and acutely aware of the special interests of travelling singers. Those registering need not read music since it is hoped that all of the repertoire will be memorized prior to performance. There are no auditions. All that registrants need to bring is their enthusiasm and interest in a holiday, which focuses on music and relaxation. The prices below include air travel, the workshop fee,and two weeks at the all inclusive resort and all taxes. All prices are based on double occupancy. Single supplement fee is only $ 200 CAD. The minimum number of registrants is 20 and all travellers must secure thir space with a $ 200 deposit refundable if the tour is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. Transfers to and from Varadero are included, as is a local tour of the area. Tours to Havana can be arranged locally at additional cost.

REGISTRATION FOR CUBA January 2010 Gospel and Folk Singing Workshop lead by Peter Dent   Upon submission of this form plus payment of the required deposit, I register for the 2010 singing tour of Cuba, sponsored by Vision Travel Ltd. I understand that because this is a musical tour, if I register as a singer, I will be required to rehearse for up to three hours per day for six days. I also agree to participate in all performances. This is a fun tour. No auditions are required, no experience is necessary, and it is not necessary to be able to read music. Repertoire is arranged by the Director to be mastered, memorized and performed within a week with no great stress to the singers. Increasingly, the organizers are adding more Cuban Repertoire. Most of the arrangements are scored for 3 voices. Performances will be in genuine Cuban venues before a Cuban audience in the Santa Cruz El Norte region of Cuba.
